Joy and Healing
We are designed for joy! Current advances in neuroscience confirm the Biblical truth that joy is our
strength—and foundational for life. When our relationships with God and others are rooted in joy,
our brain develops the resilience to recover from distress, quiet from upsetting emotions, and grow in
maturity. When our brain lacks the foundation of joy, it lacks strength to connect with others in lifegiving
relationships, and lacks the ability to consistently and effectively regulate pain, pleasure or emotions.
Addiction is literally the process by which the brain attaches to Behaviors, Events, Experiences,
People and Substances (BEEPS) in an effort to regulate emotion, increase pleasure and decrease pain.
Joy is what our brain needs to be healthy—and to recover from the devastation of addictions and
trauma. Restarting is joyful brain‐training!
Trauma and Healing.
Joy, and joyful relationships with God and others are foundational for healing, because our brain is
unable to process pain that exceeds it’s capacity for joy. We need strong, joyful connections with God
and others to heal. In this workshop, we’ll discover how joy helps us heal, and the effects of trauma
on the brain. By understanding the impact of trauma and joy on the brain, we’ll be able to take a close
look at strategies for healing that work—and those that are not effective
Immanuel Healing
Learning to talk and interact with God about our lives is essential for growth and maturity. Learning to
talk with God about the painful places in life is foundational for healing from addition, trauma, abuse
and distressing relationships. The Immanuel Process is a simple exercise used in Restarting and
throughout the Thriving: Recover Your Life Program to help participants learn to experience God’s
presence, talk with Him, and discover His heart for healing.
Build Joy
What does appreciation feel like to you? What is it like when you feel connected with God and others
when you know they are glad to be with you? How can you tell stories that build joy, train your brain, and create a place for others to belong with you? |
